I am hailed from Taherpur, a small rehabilitate city/village of Nadia District of West Bengal. My forefathers failed from a village under Gournadi Thana of Barisal District of Bangladesh (earlier East Pakistan). From childhood we experienced for the struggle of existence. From my grandmother, I hard the history of how they became refugee and take shelter at Dhubulia, in Nadia District of West Bengal. At this Dhubulia refugee camp, small pox took away my grandfather and two of his daughters (my aunt). Indian government gave some materials for making a hut and some two hundred rupees and a piece of land at Taherpur. Then, this place does not have any railway station but had a rail link afterwards we seen a railway station build and named after the village.

Basically, I am a qualified Cost Accountant from Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India. I worked in different responsibility from Audit Cerk to Accounts Manger at New Delhi and Mumbai. During 1990 I came to know about this profession through our monthly journal "Management Accountant" and it guided its member telling the details to enter this profession. When I settled down at Kolkata in 1995 with an intension to start something in my own. In 1996, I applied for a Surveyor and Loss Assessor licence an within a months time I got the same.

I had to face lot of trouble to start this profession like others, sometime I was also thinking to leave this profession but those unwanted problem gave me energy to stay in. After empanelling with all the subsidiaries, the first six month I could not able to get a single job. When ultimately I got my first job, problem with report writing came and I took the help of one old surveyor and I started my carrier in this profession. From that time I was thinking why a common platform of surveyors is not exist. Times goes on and I learnt many thinks about this professions. On the insist of one of my friend, I have started study for examination of Insurance Institute of India. I passed the Licenciate Examination in 1998 and started study for the Associate exam but failed to continue my study. In 2000, all of sudden we have been asked to submit our details about the survey done in the last five years. My first application found missing and I applied agin and I have given 'C' Category in 'Marine' and 'Misc', without any reason 'Fire' and 'LOP' did nto give to me. I applied to the authority for 'Fire' and 'LOP' but they did nothing. From that period, we came to know from various report that a professional Institute will be form to tackle and uplift our profession. I thought, once the Institute come, our problem will be solved.

At the surveyors meeting called by IRDA, I learnt 'IISA', a surveyor's Institute covering almost allover India and was frontrunner of Chartered Status. If I hard before I could have join to its bandwagon. When ultimately the authority formed the Institute called "Indian Institute of Insurance Surveyors and Loss Assessors" (IIISLA), I become its member depositing Rs. 12,500.00 and afterwards the authority refunded me the excess amount of reduced amount.

The authority took much time to publish the first list of members, and when they gave notice for election I submitted my nomination. One fine morning one man came to my office and inform that Mr. Goutam Basu likes to talk to me, I readily agreed and called Mr. Basu on phone and fixed an appointment and for the first time I met with Mr. Basu and Mr. Tara Charan Chatterjee. They offered me for association with their panel as they have short of a person as Mr. Tapan Kr. Barua's nomination did not reached to Election Office within the stipulated period. I accepted their offer citing one of my weak point that I cannot do anything until I get the reason for doing the same. The absence of any network all the 12 members of our panel won the election. We took over the responsibility of Institute from the authority on 15th December, 2007.

Lots of things we supposed to do but due to some weak coordination among us, we could not achieve mush as expected. It is true that we did not get any help from the authority for some of our burning problems, like, Categorisation / violation of 64UM by private Insurers, Contract Survey, etc. The public insurers also started some act which have gone against the welfare of general members. All most all the subsidiaries of GIC (public Insurers) started to move for 'Claim Hub'. In a city only one office will handle all the claims and they are not accommodate all those surveyors already empanelled in its different divisions in the same city. Insurer doing all this activity ask our Institute

As a youngest Council member, I suggested so many times to our other colleague in the council but failed to take any concrete shape. Some of my correspondence with our colleague can be download from my folder correspondence folder. Several times I suggested to go for election for all 12 member and amend the AOA suitably so that election process may come once in every three years. I failed to convince the danger of election in each year.
